Paul H. Williams Jr. was born on July 7, 1923 in La Grange, Ga., the son of Paul H. and Loretta M Williams. In elementary school he won several art scholarships and eventually attended the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts. An avid skier, Williams volunteered for the 10th Mountain Division in late 1942 at Camp Hale, Colo.
